I am wanting to know the differance between the JD 790 and the 770.I found a 770 4x4 with a 70 loader, 1997 model with 300 hrs. on it. The dealer quoted me $10,000 over the phone. This seems to be a pretty good price. However I am really wanting a 790, new one. Whicj another dealer quoted me $11,000 for. Should I continue persuing the 790 of go for the 770 @ $10,000 (which includes the loader)?Any ideas?

Does the $11,000 for the 790 include the loader and SCV($500)? I was quoted 14,500 to 14,950 + tax in Colo. last fall for a 790 with JD loader. I ended up buying a 98 770, 60 hrs. with Great Bend loader(better specs than JD), mid pto, fully ballasted, 10cf dump cart and 513 cutter for 13K and no tax. Sure the 790 has 5 more hp but I would recommend a low hour, well maintained 770 any day. They are out there. Thats my $.02 ....

The $11,000 is strickly for the Brand New 790 only. They quoted me $2,500 for a Mod 70 Loader, + $400 set up charges. Just wondering if the 770 was as good a machine as the 790. Wonder how much negotiation room there is on $11,000? Anyone have any ideas? ....

Got my 790 w 70 loader late last year, paid 14,700.00
The 790 has very little markup on it, so no dealer is going to do better then 11,000 on the machine, as a matter a fact my dealer told me the price JD quotes on there advertised $ did not include the SCV or the mid PTO, and was for the Bar tires. So when he added the SCV, MID PTO, the Turf Tires, and ballast box, came to $12,000.00 (4wd of course). the 70 loader was 2,700.00 installed.

I agree with the 770 over the 790, if you can in fact get a 770 with the loader for 10k, that is a great deal. I would have taken a 770 if there was a used one at the time I got my 790. Could have got my Backhoe with the extra cash, and 300hours is nothing on a machine if it wasn't abused.

Also, don't forget, no warrenty if you go used. (not that you need one with a JD....LOL)

Thanks for the input! What does "SCV" Stand for? I think that I am going to go to the dealer and look at the 770 with 300 hrs. The dealer quoted me the $10,000 price with the loader. I thought that it sounded like one heck of a deal. (as long as it has not been abused) ....... I asked him how he got the tractor and he said that he got it on a trade in for a JD LAwn Mower. (I dont know if it was the new 4000 series or not) anyway thanks for the help. ....

Well.....I went to look at the used 770 with 70 Ft. End Loader. It is 2 years old (1998 model), with 390 hrs, and it looks like it has seen some abuse. It had a lot of surface rust, the handle that works the ft. end loader, actually HIT the fender well. What are some of the KEY things to look for in a used Tractor? It was sitting on asphalt and I did not see any fluid leaks. I offered the dealer $9500 (he had told me $10,000 on Tues. ....
